Child and Adolescent Psychologist Perth

The transitions from childhood to adolescence, and subsequently adulthood are marked by significant changes in development and growth. This process brings with it new physical, social and mental challenges which are often not easy to navigate and face alone.

Our psychologists work with children and teens of all ages to help them build and develop the skills necessary to overcome the challenges of life and gain a sense of confidence in both their current self and where they are headed.

Which of your psychologists is going to be a right for me?

As we continually grow and expand our Humanique family, we know it could get a little overwhelming trying to choose a psychologist that you think would be the best fit for you. All our psychologists are highly experienced and deeply committed to helping our clients live their best life. We have written a short biography for each of our psychologists here which we hope will let you get to know us a little better.

We understand that finding the right therapist (and approach) can be a frustrating, stressful and confusing experience. In order to help ease the burden, we are always happy to answer any questions you might have to make sure that we will work well together. Just give us a call. If we are unable to answer your call, leave us a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

In the rare event that you have a session at Humanique and feel that the psychologists’ approach is not the right fit for you, please let us know as soon as possible and we’ll help you find someone who is, or refer you to a recommended psychologist in Perth. Your wellbeing is our utmost priority.

What if I feel that my psychologist is not a right fit for me?

During the first few sessions, You are encouraged to pay attention to how you feel during and after each counselling or psychotherapy session to decide if the psychologist’s approach is a good match for you. If you feel that it’s not really going well, please do not hesitate to let them know and we can assist you in getting a referral to someone who might be a better fit.

We understand that everyone is unique and different approaches work better on different people depending on a multitude of factors that might not be apparent even to ourselves. Ultimately, we encourage you to do what is best for you. Rest assured, we will not take offence or hold it against you if you want to see another psychologist either at Humanique or elsewhere. Your mental wellbeing is our foremost priority, always.

Our Modalities, and using what is right

Our Perth psychologists are skilled in a wide range of treatment modalities and ultimately, what we use during your counselling sessions would depend on your individual circumstances. Rest assured we only use evidence-based approaches and our practice ensures that all psychologists are kept up to date on the latest developments in our field.

Some examples of the type of approach we might use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Schema Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Skills training or psycho-education. Don’t worry if these terms are not familiar to you, your psychologist will always make sure you know what is happening at all times.

What will we talk about in our sessions?

Many people see a psychologist without knowing what to expect or where or how to begin. This is perfectly fine. Some of the things that might be discussed in these sessions include identifying and clarifying your goals for yourself and your identity, examining your current situation and obstacles which might be preventing you from achieving your full potential.

We also aim to work together with you to analyse your strengths / weaknesses / achievements as well as any aspect of your life that you might want to change. Remember, counselling is not only about “fixing” a bad situation, it is also about making an average or good situation better. ‘Thrive, not survive’ is our motto.

Psychological Assessment and Testing

Psychological Testing is a process to measure various aspects of cognitive functioning such as personality, memory or problem-solving. Our Perth Psychologists can help you with most of your psychological testing needs. We have an extensive test library and are accredited practitioners for a range of assessments.

Most tests are typically completed electronically, on our devices at our sessions under our supervision. Tests vary greatly in price and will include scoring and reporting in a session(s) with your psychologist as necessary. Get in touch with us for more information about psychological testing.
